Christine
Charvet
Christine is a graduate student in the Striedter lab.
She's interested in the complex relationships between brain
development, evolution, behavior. Her main dissertation
work consisted of measuring embryonic brain region growth
and maturation in various species, including parakeets,
zebra finches, bobwhite quail, chickens, pheasants,
turkeys, ducks, geese, emus, and alligators. Chrstine has
also examined cell death in embryonic chicken brains and
measured the rates of cell division in the brains of
embryonic parakeets and quail. In 2008 she went on a DAAD
fellowship to Berlin, Germany, where she studied vertebrate
embryos in a collection at the Naturkundemuseum. In the
summer of 2009 she will probably travel on an NSF
fellowship to New Zealand, where she will have the
opportunity to study the brains of many Southern Hemisphere
birds. She is currently writing the last few chapters of
her dissertation and looking around for postdocotoral
opportunities. The picture here shows her at one of her
favorite places in France.
